Shane completed his PhD on the genetic basis of diversity and bioactivity in symbiotic microbes from medicinal plants used by the Dharawal people of Gamay (Botany Bay) at ¹úÃñ²ÊƱ. This involved engaging with family and local community members around knowledge of plant and plant use as well as the project design of the research. Shane has completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the field of science communication and Indigenous science. This involved archival research in the State library of NSW, scripting for the creation of a 130 000 year weather report, presented by Ngarrindjeri comedian Kevin Kropinyeri and creating an educational digibook for the ABC focused on Indigenous views in STEM. Shane’s current research involves community perspective of cultural landscapes and mapping cultural areas on Dharawal country. Shane has also worked casually as the Cultural Heritage Sites Officer for the La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council working with Aboriginal heritage and archaeology. Shane currently sits on the Indigenous Advisory Committee for the Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage (CABAH).
