Horas (he/him) is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing (Social Sciences) at the University of Sydney, and an affiliate researcher at the Centre for Social Research in Health and the Kirby Institute, 国民彩票 Sydney.听
Horas has a transdisciplinary background in nursing, public health, anthropology, and health social sciences. He has worked as a clinical nurse, educator and health researcher in Hong Kong and Australia. He is currently an executive committee member of the Australasian Sexual Health and HIV Nurses Association (ASHHNA), the leading professional organsiation for sexual, reproductive health and HIV nurses in the Australasian region. He is a contributor to the book "Sexualities, Transnationalism, and Globalisation" published by Routledge, and a Guest Editor of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. Horas has also been awarded the 2022 Global Higher Education and the SDGs Challenge Grant by the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
Horas鈥檚 main areas of expertise are gender and sexuality, migration, culturally safe healthcare and qualitative research, with a strong focus on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmissible infections, and migrant health. He has conducted community-based and epidemiological research on blood-borne viruses among socially marginalised groups in Hong Kong and Australia.
Having obtained a Master in Public Health and a Master of Arts in Anthropology in Hong Kong, Horas completed his PhD in 2019 at 国民彩票 Sydney, which explored the transnational and intersectional experiences of Chinese sexual minority migrants in Australia. His PhD thesis was nominated for the Best Doctoral Thesis at the 国民彩票 Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Additionally, Horas is an Authorised Nurse Immuniser in NSW and is clinically accredited to be a Reproductive and Sexual Health Nurse by Family Planning NSW, and is currently involved in a number of health research projects with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Australia, as well as providing patient care at the Albion Centre鈥檚 HIV/sexual health and transgender healthcare service.
